Dedicated Wifi dongle makes sense. Easier to support than random routers who all behave differently.

Regular use standalone numbers will be far higher than regular use PCVR. According to Steam, there are less than 3 million PCVR headsets. And the majority of them are Quest headsets. Whereas there are over 20 million standalone VR headsets out there at least, probably double that. Take Gorilla Tag, on PCVR the highest number of players on Steam ever was 2700. On Standalone, there are over 1 million playing daily and 3 million playing monthly.

I imagine standalone vastly outnumbers PCVR. But tethered PCVR is still the preferred option for flight/racing sims and those seeking ultimate image quality.

Wireless inevitably means transcoding and compression which degrades clarity. It would be surprising it Valve ditched DisplayPort. We don't need another Quest.

I hope it is small and light. I want to get back into VR but I can't handle the discomfort of every headset I've ever tried and I am not interested in spending a grand on a big screen beyond.
 
If the next Valve headset had the currently most wished for 'general' features and tech, like maybe QLED, face tracking, controllers with no blind spots etc.
What in your opinion would the price realistically be?

Rumours are $/£1200.

For that, including controllers, given it's almost certainly wireless, includes eye-tracking and can possibly run some games natively you're probably not getting super-high res MicroOLED displays with that.
