Valve Index VR

For Squadrons i found higher hz was better than higher graphics. Dropped shadows etc.

Playing with hotas had me giggling flying around. Never actually did much of the missions though! Need to get back into it when i finally buy another ssd for storage.

I've got everything running on ultra but I don't know what resolution its running at.

It looks fine with no apparent stutter/frame drops.

I'm just in the training thingy, flying around,so much fun !

Glad you're enjoying it. Are you keeping it (the quest 2)?

Cheers,I'm not sure yet.

Reports of a Quest pro coming out early this year with a miniled screen and the Quest 3 coming out next year, so I think I would rather wait until then with the improvements the headsets will bring.

i could be wrong though

but I thought the next headset , AKA the more powerful Quest 2 is going to be really expensive and towards non gamers
as they said the Q2 will be around for a long time yet, but will release a more powerful one, but the Quest 2 will remain a dedicated one for gamers

Quest 2 is basically good enough now for the consumer market. It has enough resolution, good tracking, and lots of content, is cheap and there are plenty of third party add-ons.

Plus they have set the thermal limits pretty conservatively, so looking at the thrermal data from the millions of headsets in use they might be able to increase the clock speed to get better performance later via a firmware update.

I'm certainly interested in a Quest pro though, especially if it has a wider FOV and better PC connectivity.

Aye, seemingly with the miniled display it will provide a sharper picture and even better colours.

I am getting used to the picture of the Quest 2,but if the Quest Pro is coming out soon with the improved picture and other features reported,it makes sense to wait for that even if it is dearer.

But surely the Quest Pro will be aimed for gaming also.

No, it doesn't make sense. You are giving up almost a year of playing VR for a headset you know nothing about. And I can guarantee you when the next headset is due out, there will be specs and info about the headset after that which will sound better. Are you going to wait then too?

You can't judge a future headset on rumours. HTC Cosmos is an example of that. On pre released specs and rumours it sounded better in every way than all the headsets out at the time. However, it turned out to be a horrible headset.

Did you get your IPD measured like I asked you to?

its true what melmac said, theres always someting "better" about to come out. if you delayed your purchase so u could get the "next best thing" you'll never purchase anything in vr!

I understand what you are both saying, but if I want the best VR experience as possible,I think I would rather wait a while longer for it.

Don't get me wrong,I am blown away with the Quest 2 but if the Quest Pro is out in a few months as an example and is aimed at gamers, and I have no doubt of the improvements that will have over the Quest 2, I'd rather wait for that.

No Melmac,I haven't checked my IPD yet,I will do it though, but I'm lazy with things like that.

The 3 IPD setting on the Quest 2 gives me the best picture though.

Do you have £2000 spare? That will buy you a Varjo Aero, you'll get no blurry'ness, reviewers say its as good as a 4k monitor. The clarity is truly next level over current hmd's. I've bought one and i'm on a waiting list for delivery.
0% balance transfer credit cards are ace :D

No,I don't have a 2k budget :p

I meant within reason,I could stretch my budget to £1000,but the headset would have to be totally worth it:)

The first line of your post is exactly the point that me and Tyke are trying to make, there is no best VR experience possible and there won't be for years. The tech is moving way too fast and they are throwing various solutions at the wall and seeing which ones stick. And it's still in the stages that a person's head shape, facial features, IPD etc. will have as much impact on a person liking a VR headset as the tech that the headset has.

What I am trying to say is that if you find a headset that you enjoy, you should buy it and use it, rather than wait for a headset which might be a lot worse for you. Or could have a load of problems at launch. Or might be just pure crap despite the tech specs.

Just have to correct some of your misconceptions about the the Quest Pro. It's called Meta Cambria. And it's not aimed at gamers but It is compatible with Quest 2 games. Meta Cambria is aimed at the MetaVerse. Getting Facial interactions, eye movements etc into VR and also a much better mixed reality experience. It seems to be an AR/VR headset. Most of the features that the Meta Cambria will have, won't make much, if any difference, to the gaming experience. Especially PCVR games. We don't know if it will even connect to a PC, it's more than likely that it will be Standalone only. And, we don't know what Resolution it will be using. If it's a headset aimed at mainly Social VR experiences/prosumer market then it might have a lower resolution than the Quest 2.

Also, the price is going to be high. Somewhere between $1000 and $1500. I will be very surprised if it's much less than £999.

I don't care if you keep the Quest 2 or not. That's entirely up to you. All I am saying is that you shouldn't base your decision on rumours. Base it on facts, things you actually know to be true.

There are a couple advantages of keeping the Quest 2. When you get a new GPU, the Quest 2 will improve. You get to play VR games now, not in some imaginary time in the future. And lastly, all the headsets that are coming out this year seem to be on the expensive side. So, if there is a headset released that you want to upgrade to, you should be able to sell the Quest 2 for a good price. The high end headsets been released won't have any impact on the second hand sale prices of Quest 2's.

I understand totally what you are saying.

Thanks for pointing out about Cambria,so that rules that headset out of the question!

It's just I'm pretty fussy and maybe expect things to be perfect or better than they are.Its not that I am saying anything bad about the Quest 2, as I have said before I'm blown away by it.I think it's a good price for what you are getting!

I have only had it a few days after all and this is my first venture into the VR world,so im still learning what to expect.
