Not sure if already posted, only 2 hours left to go until the announcement? Could this be Steam box hardware? New TF Characters? :p

The site hosts a countdown that will end at 1 p.m. ET on Monday, Sept. 23, as well as some cryptic planetary imagery and symbols along with the following title: "The Steam Universe is Expanding in 2014." The first symbol is a circle, then a circle within square brackets and a circle plus another circle:

It's possible that one of the announcements will be Valve's own "Steam Box," the company's long-awaited solution for living-room gaming.

Cool if it is the Steam Box, hopefully if it becomes mainstream like Playstation and Xbox, then their would be more noobs for me to destroy in BF and COD :p.

About an hour and thirty minutes remaining !

In SteamOS, we have achieved significant performance increases in graphics processing, and we’re now targeting audio performance and reductions in input latency at the operating system level. Game developers are already taking advantage of these gains as they target SteamOS for their new releases

Awesome.

^^ As long as new games get the ValveOS treatment I couldn't care about the old ones. I have wanted to ditch Windows in favour of a bloat free OS for gaming for a long time. Will be dual booting SteamOS for gaming with W7 for work stuff. Look forward to testing it out.

Yeah i'm just going to write off the 210-odd games i've already got on steam to move to linux....or not lol.

You will still be able to play your old games on Windows, future games being optimized for Linux and having better performance out of your hardware is a good thing. People don't like change, computer people really really don't like change lol. I see ValveOS as a great thing personally. Why should Windows be the only way to play PC games. Look forward to trying ValveOS out. W7 for work stuff, ValveOS for gaming.

Whatever the limitations of a SteamOS, I think this is a nice thing to have, and a good way to start planning for the future. I would imagine in 20 years or so, we will have a box that either streams from the cloud (most people) then enthusiasts [guessing most people on this forum] will have their own setup. It's an exciting future ahead!

^^ This, all the big players are moving their pieces into position for a digital future. Eventually Hardware limitations will give way to 'services' that offer the type of experience you want. (PlayStation' Sony), (Steam' Valve), and (Xbox' Microsoft) will be uniquely positioned to offer their own services through their own digital distribution. Using whatever 'service provider' you choose on multiple devices. Valve are making their play for more exposure now, especially as they are a growing company that until now has been on what you could call a sinking ship (Windows shrinking desktop PC market). For PC gaming this is can only be a good thing imho.

We thinking the second announcement will be a Steam box itself?

Hopefully the third will be Half Life 3.

Makes you wander how long it will be before SteamOS and Steam hardware actually launch, if it's done in 'Valve time' we could be looking at another year or so lol.

Anticlimax but that controller does look pretty nice, trackpads would be different but I'm sure superior to traditional stick controls. Hmm will Half Life 3 ever be made?
