Valve to release console in 2013

It's going to be running Linux, I read somewhere.

Obviously, as they won't want to tie themselves to Microsoft and the associated costs. Besides, I'm sure I've read somewhere that OpenGL is making leaps ahead of DirectX in some way or other at the moment.

It may be, except where it counts (Widespread usage for mainstream gaming)
Fire up 10 games at random in your Steam list, which ones are Direct X and how many OpenGL?

Can't see it taking off tbh, it will be a pc with a valve sticker on the front, as soon as the specs are revealed we can all build one at a fraction of the cost they will sell it for as I can't see valve selling them at a loss that traditionally happens with new consoles, also if it uses some sort of valve OS there's no way Microsoft will licence DirectX when there new console will be around at the same time competing with it

It will be using Linux and that is openGL which can be faster then DirectX.

But has ****-poor support by game developers most of the time, the open standard might push forward but means nothing if there arent game developers happy to produce games using the OpenGL path efficiently...
