Hi Guys.

I'm hiring a van this week and was just wondering if anyone knew which companies require a deposit on top of the rental cost and which don't.

I've been looking at Sixt, and there is no mention of a deposit on their FAQ and Help guide.

As I'm paying on a debit card, I don't want to have to pay too much ontop of the already pricey hire cost.

It used to be that you had two separate amounts on your card, one for the hire and one for the deposit. If everything goes well they do not process the deposit.

Yeah, but I would obviously need the deposit amount available in my account ontop of the rental amount.

So I wasn't sure whether all van hire places do this, or just some of them.

Thrifty comes highly recommended. Unless they have changed from a year ago, they are honest, and dont try and screw you over over little things like fuel and parking dents.

There are lots of dodgy rental companies out there, beware.

Well, I'm planning on going with a mainstream company, Thirfity will want the rental and excess costs up front, which is going be nearly £400.

Before 1car1 went bust, I never had to pay a deposit with them.
