Quick question

if you only have vanilla WOW, is it pointless even trying to get into it?

do they have worlds that are started from the beginning? I got sick of playing it a couple of years ago as everyone on the server had huge guilds and there wasn't anyone doing any of the low level quests.

If you bought the game previously and have been inactive for more than 90 days, you can have a Scroll of Resurrection cast on you by an active subscriber which I believe upgrades you to Cataclysm (might be worth looking into this though, as I'm not sure whether it goes from Vanilla -> Cataclysm or just WotLK -> Cata). Saying that though you should still be able to play pre-TBC content.

I'd assume the low level areas are as empty now as they were back then unless you play Alliance/Pandaren and on a highly populated server.

I am newish to WoW (keep going coming back) and I dont think I have used any/much of the expansion content. Playing a 53 human lock.

they have made cross realm servers, to make leveling areas feel a bit more alive you can and probably will see folks from other realms near you.

I was in netherstorm area 52 looking at the old pvp gear for transmog, a 60 orc warrior on quel thalas was there and the lucky bugger had Corrupted ashbringer.

Its basically as long as you have had an active account in the past, even if it was only during vanilla or tbc. You get 7 days back in the game and if you buy a month you get auto upgraded to the cataclysm expansion.
So for 8.99 a vanilla account will be given 3 expansions.

As far as I know, a Vanilla version of the game still incorporates most new features that have been added, sub-60. The only stuff you won't be able to access is the Goblin / Worgen / Draenei / Blood Elf / Pandaren starting zones, the Death Knight area and maybe pet battles (not sure on that)... and obviously anything beyond level 60. You will be able to see the post-Cataclysm old world, use features such as the dungeon finder and all the talent trees and abilities will match those that anybody with the full game has. I imagine many of the old zones will be as populated as they have ever been.

Cross Zone is in so no low level areas are underpopulated, you'll see other players around

Vanilla wow now incorporates Burning Crusade and Wrath of Lich King expansions, even if you only ever bought vanilla you can now level up to 70.

A recent change meant even if you dont own cata you can now create Goblins and Worgens and play through the starting zones, you can even create a pandaren on a vanilla account and go through that starting area. The only thing you cant do is roll a monk

You can still install and try the game however WoW is very much all about end game content, you can level up and do some dungeons to see if you like it but be warned, if you get addicted you are going to buy all expansions and play it everyday.
