I have a ASUS Rampage Extreme 3 Motherboard, with 12 gig of memory fitted. Th problem is that unknown to me until now it has sometimes been showing in my bios and in windows system at only 8 Gig.I tried inserting and reinserting the 3 x 4 gig into their respective slots A1, B1 and C1 orangy reb in colour slots. I have also tried icreasing my memory voltage to 1.52 volts but no luck until I saw a setting in the bios which you can set to recheck the memory on error. This solved the problem but leaves me thinking I am missing somethng because sometime it boots up past post check first time and sometimes it restarts before booting, but now always showing 12 gig
My memory is
Corsair Vengeance 12GB (3x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz Triple Channel Kit (CMZ12GX3M3A1600C9)
Corsair Hydro H100 Extreme Performance Liquid CPU Cooler
Intel Core i7 960 3.20Ghz (Nehalem) (Socket LGA1366
Windows 7 Pro 64
Any help would be gratefully received

Damaged pins in the CPU socket can cause you to 'lose' a RAM slot.

What CPU cooler do you have? Over tightening those can have the same effect.

Try loosening the screws securing the pump/block a turn each and see where you are then.

You don't want to loosen them too much otherwise it won't make good contact with the CPU.

+1, This was my problem on my X58 Sabertooth when my bios reported only 4 instead of 6 gigs of RAM, I loosened the CPU heatsink and it cured it.
