My question is will this Sapphire R9 280X Vapor-X work with my current card in crossfire?

you dont need vaporx for crossfire to work xD
AMD cards are pretty flexible when it comes to crossfire, you can crossfire your card with any 7950, 7970, R9 280, and R9 280X

it will be the same as crossfiring a hd7950 with a hd7970 GHz edition

If its being paired with a 7950 wouldn't a R9 280 be a better match? (ie not a 280x as that is a 7970)
