It doesn't work

Why and what's wrong with it. Paid £500 for it nearly 2 years ago. Overclockers said it was fine after testing it. PC repair shop said the motherboard cpu etc needs upgrading.

Finally saved up the £630 for upgraded everything bought from overclockers and still not working. Over £1000 spent and my spectrum 48k works better lol

Help would be greatly appreciated guys.

"It doesn't work" needs to be narrowed down a little I think ;). What exactly doesn't work about it?

You bought the card two years ago, so you've used the card for two years and it has worked correctly, yes?

When you push the power button on the PC what happens, does your monitor stay in standby? Does it come on but remain black? Does it come on but the output is garbled? If you have an OS already installed, do you hear any sound from your speakers as it boots such as the Windows start-up sound, this might narrow down whether you have a GPU problem or whether the whole system just isn't booting.

When you upgraded your "motherboard, cpu, etc" did that include PSU? What make and model of PSU are you running?

Hi sorry I was a little frustrated. Lol I bought it 2 years ago, installed it but it never worked. Did not get any picture. The system sounds like it booting normally but just no picture. Put old card back in and all is well. After hearing from pic repair and build shop they said it all needs upgrading so it took me till now to save up my pocket pennies to buy upgrades. I have not used this card at all. I was using the old card all this time. Now I have my new bits installed same problem applies. My upgrades consist of
Asus Z97 pro gamer Intel z79 bracket socket 1150 bracket ddr3 tax motherboard.

Cooler master hyper 212 ego cup cooler

Intel core i5 4690 3.50ghz (has well) socket lga1150 processor retail

Kingston hyper x fury black 8gb (2 x 4 gab) ddr3 pc3 14900c10 1866 MHz dual channel kit (hx318c10fbk2/8)

We black 1 tb Sata 6gb/s 64mb cache hdd Pemex (wd1003 fzex)

It is all powered by a EVGA supernova NEX750B power supply.

I play online with a friend who has this exact build and this the reasons for my choices.

Hope this helps

Long shot - are you plugging it into a VGA input on a screen, by any chance? The 290X does not support analogue outputs (even via DVI-I to VGA adapter) so that could explain why you're not seeing anything on the screen where OcUK said the GPU was fine.

If you are, you're going to need an Active DP-VGA adapter to get it to work, or a screen that supports DVI/HDMI/DP.

If you're using a DVI/HDMI/DP cable & screen already, the only thing I can think of is have you got both power connectors plugged securely into the GPU itself?

On the graphics card there is 2 8 pin vga sockets. I am only plugged in to 1 of these. I thought the other was for running a second card. Do I need to connect a second vga lead from the psu to this second socket. I have tried the Dvi connection and the HDMI to the moniter but no picture. Should I connect a second power cable to the card?

The GPU needs both 8-pin connectors to receive sufficient power, especially a powerful card like the 290X.

Do this and then try the DVI connection.

Crossfire used to work off a bridge connection across the top of both cards, like SLI. The newer cards like the 290X don't need that.

Thanks guys the two vga cords worked. Is 300 FPS good for counter strike. Or should it be more

Counter Strike has always topped out at 300FPS for me, think the engine is limited to producing 300FPS as maximum.

Glad you got the card working, and I wouldn't go back to the PC repair shop again, if I were you, if a missing power connector didn't jump out as soon as they opened the case up!

Yeah that's a real pity you've lost two years worth of gaming on it as well for such a simple solution.

I wonder if it was incompetence or something more sinister... just wanted the customer to spend in their shop and told him any old rubbish.
