does anyone know how to change the varible path for sending programs files to c drive to go to a partition called e drive

i get as far as current version then cant see anything called commonfilesdir or programfilesdir

is it really that bad ive been following an xp install from custom pc magizine and it says to have 3 partitions 10g for windows/30g for data/the remaining for programs ive done all this but i get as far as current version then cant find programfilesdirvariable because all i have to do is change it from going to c partition to e partition seems ok if i could find what i want
