Maybe a new headset from Varjo

We're at a point now that trying to produce a reasonably cost headset is pretty much pointless for most smaller companies. Meta/Pico have it pretty much locked down, and only other such large companies could likely compete. Better off going for the specialist stuff.

It's EUR 3,990

+ 1,000 for SteamVR tracking

The image i have shows inside out tracking, with controllers included?

While the price is extreme, without the subscription the headset will sell to a selective audience.

Too rich for my blood for what is only would be a PCVR headset on a play for the displays. I'll stick with the plan and double down on the crystal, having just spent 7K on a new PC.

Actually the top model of the Varjo XR-4, which they claimed is better than the Apple Vision Pro has a price of $9999 US dollars

Specs of the top of the line XR-4

* 3840x3744 pixels per eye (20% more than Apple Vision Pro)
* 90 hz refresh
* 120 by 105 degrees field of view with massive lenses (vs 100 degrees on Apple Vision Pro)

* MiniLED panel with full array local dimming
* 20 Megapixel auto focus pass through cameras with eye tracking and with pass through resolution of 51PPD (80% more than Apple Vision Pro)
* Includes high resolution ambient and lidar sensors for dynamic real time depth with 800% increase in sensor data vs XR-3

It's pretty obvious this is not a gaming headset. And as such it will be only sold to commercial customers. Varjo is considering selling to private customers but at an unknown future point

I didn't see any mention of eye tracking. Did I miss it?

I saw it on a news story I had just read but it's mentioned on the Varjo website too

The pass through cameras have eye tracking and auto focus. They claim with the high resolution, and tracking features, the pass through should feel quite natural and convincing so that you might forget you even have a headset on

System requirements for the new headset are quite heavy but to be honest anyone who can afford a $4k to $10k headset can afford a top of the line PC

Minimum requirements:

CPU: Intel 12900k or other premium CPU with at least 8 cores

RAM: 32gb or more

GPU: RTX3090/4070ti or better
