Varying GPU loads

Here is the thing. If I restart my computer I get a constant 99% GPU load when playing BF3 (with 7950). It will be fine for hours, but if I put it too sleep and wake it, then I get stuttering when playing games. You can see on Afterburner the GPU load is varying wildly.

I am using the latest Catalyst 13.1 drivers. I have found if I alter the power limit and put it back then it is fine. It also does it when the card is not overclocked btw.

Anyone got any ideas ?!

And yes I know the card tuns hot ! I tired reseating the cooler, and using arctic silver, and it made all of 1 degree difference.

I had all manner of sleep/wake related issues with my 7970 and sold it in the end and went back to Nvidia.

FWIW no drivers changed anything.

Your GPU core clocks are all over the place... it should be a straight line unless its loading new levels at which point it will drop to 300Mhz, so it should be up and down in straight lines.

This is very odd, i have never seen this before.

Try running it without MSI AB installed, use 0Ibit unistaller and use the scan function to remove registry settings.

MSI AB was the culprit for my random BSOD problems on my 7870, i still use MSI AB but using it to unlock voltage control causes those random BSOD.
Any other overclocking utility and i have no problems at all.

Thanks for that. I did notice the other day a game crashed when I loaded up After burner. It could be the culprit.

I get this now and then, for some reason its like the OC fails. If I hit reset in AB then reapply the OC its fine.

Thats the same as me. If I re-apply the overclock its fine again. I assume it was a driver issue which I hoped would be fixed with the 13.1 update.

I some times need to re-apply the MSI AB Fan profile, for some reason after starting the computer the fan is running away at 40%, its default speed. I have to go into MSI AB > settings > Fan and hit OK.
