You said one thing, were corrected, then you reply stating you were right in the first place when you weren't. I was merely agreeing with the first reply.

I made no errors in my post. Tom0's post profoundly misunderstood VAT. You can reclaim VAT on inputs if you are a VAT registered business - i.e. the only kind of business that would be charging VAT on coffee. A builder who charges you VAT, can reclaim the VAT he claimed on the materials he used.
That there's a number of exemptions and exceptions in the VAT system doesn't change that.
