hmrph we just upgraded our forum from vb2 to vb3 (yeah late on the uptake), but now the forum seems unindated with spammers and fake accounts.

the image verification/captcha is on and so is email verification. other than manually accept all membrs, what else can we do?

Have a look at the "NoSpam!" modification.

It replaces or compliments the Image Captcha (which you have modified from the defaults, right?) by providing a selection of Questions/Answers which you can specify.

For example, you could have as the question: "How many wheels does a car have?" and the answer could be "4" or "four"

You'd put this down in the NoSpam settings as:

How many wheels does a car have?:4:four

Do a selection of simple but effective questions (or even a "Type the word 'WORD'" into the box" type thing), and change them every now and then.

When I did that, it cut down the automated spam bots by a very large percentage.

Other options are to disallow email addresses such as "*.ru" ;)

hehe yeah the .ru filter would help :D

we just added recaptcha which seems to be effective. i'll check out the nospam mod to.

thanks a lot :)
