"vcar"... ?

Guys, Easy one here...

What usually or normally has happened to a car for it to be on sale on "vcar"?

Saw it on a Polo that was previously accident damaged, so at a loose strand of a guess, I was worried this usually meant they've had a nasty previous life, or does it just mean they're on offer this week for whatever reason?

VCAR* Vehicle Condition Alert Registered vehicle (insurance write-off)

*VCAR status remains with the vehicle for the rest of its life, regardless of it being repaired and checked to be of a safe standard. Inclusion on the VCAR register does not indicate that the vehicle has been repaired.

It means it's been the subject of a total loss claim (i.e. insurance write off) and repaired.
