Hi

I've got vCenter 5.5 installed on a server 2012 r2 installation dedicated to that function. Is it possible to get the setup done so that if I type vcenter.domain.com on the internal network it automatically redirects to https://vcenter.domain.com:9443/? While its only a small thing, it would save me a bit of time and I wouldn't have to remember to type https?

Cheers,

Chris

Hi Caged,

Thanks. That simple eh? Was expecting something a lot more involved as vcenter doesn't appear to use IIS! I'll give it a go!

You're just having IIS answer requests on port 80 and redirect to the vCenter address, nothing more than that.

I'm a noob and this is not thankfully a production environment so understanding this concept is taking me a wee longer than I had hoped, however thanks for the pointer!

It's not IIS, it's Tomcat, so I wouldn't recommend fiddling with it, as you could break future upgrades.

Yeah I found this out and stopped messing. Trying out vCenter 6 now which doesn't need you to list the ports, although it is still built on the very dumb flash system so not compatible with bloody mobiles or my tablet!

One of VMware's worst decisions ever, to go with that flash-based web UI. They've spent 4 years and counting on it, and it's still not fantastic. vCenter 6 web GUI is a huge step up from previous versions, but still not a patch on the fat client.

Which is why so far (touch wood) I've been able to avoid v9 and v10 VMs.
