Hi all,

Before anyone moans about what i'm trying to do. IGNORE the fact its stupid. I know this is a completely unsupported environment etc etc but it works for what I need to do.

I have Windows 8 RTM installed and I need to install vCenter Server on it. Before I had it installed on Windows 7 using this guide.

Now that guide pretty much works for Windows 8 however when the install gets to installing Profile Driven Storage it just fails. The installation stops and tells me that the installer encountered problems before it could finish installing vCenter Server. Now I can see that everything is installed (Inventory sign on Sign on etc) including vCenter Server (although the service won't start) the only thing that won't install is Profile Driven Storage.

Does anyone know how to get it to install Profile Driven Storage? I have tried editing the msi file but it doesn't have a LaunchCondition that would stop it working with Win 8

So yeah any ideas?

Thanks

Ali :)

Are there any errors in the event logs? Or installation logs?

The fact that not even the vsphere client works properly on windows 8 should tell you something :p

Is it not easier to install it on a vm in your environment? Or even the vcenter virtual appliance.

Well i'm currently using vsphere client fine in win 8 no problems at all...

All I can see of any use in the log file is 'Installation success or error status: 1603'

This is 5.1 BTW have tried with 5.0... same error.

Yes I am currently running it in a VM on my pc but that still uses more resources.

Cheers

Ah, I was going to ask if you had tried update 1.

You could try a repair on that component - http://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/mi...nguage=en_US&cmd=displayKC&externalId=2017147

The vpshere bug is to do with the console view not working, perhaps i'm just unlucky but it is a recognised bug apparently!
