I have been playing with my Q6600 and got it stable at 3.35.
At 3.4 one of the cores was showing an error after about 5 mins of prime.
But I had it in widows at 3.5 but it got an error in 5 secs and fataled abut 2 secs latter when I primed it.
Temps are around 30 at idle and 60 at full load. I am running a P35 pro and its at 1.45 V at the moment. How far would you go on air ?
I'm happy at 3.35 but know it could get to 3.5 if only I knew what I was doing.

The question is a tad subjective.

I would worry more about load temps than vcore. Pick a load temp that you don't want to go over and then you can keep adding vcore til you reach that temp when Priming.

I would easy go up to 1.55v on air, more for suicide shots. As long as you keep the CPU below 72c load it should be fine.

That mobo has a lot of droop.

1.45 in the bios usually means around 1.4 in my experience with that mobo.

1.55 would be fine as long as your temps are ok

i know what you mean easyrider, ive got to set mine to 1.5 in bios just so it runs at 1.4 in prime, but temps go to about 70/72 so just leave it at 3.2 now were it runs along nice and smooth for me

well 4.9V has pushed my temps up 10c
and its seems to be holding a stable 3.42 after ten mins.
which mobo setting should I change and what would you say as a max.

Personally, i wouldn't put my vcore much above 1.4v for running 24/7. Voltage is more likely to kill the chip than heat. If a chip gets too hot, it just throttles. Excessive voltage can lead to electromigration (not good).

I think I have answered my own question.
Answer 1.55v and got my 3.5 clock BUT
all my fans are maxed out it sounds like a flymo.t/tower and Antec 900
Temps are 79c
CPU-Z is reading 1.48v though ? and when I upped the north & south V one click
I went from one core failing pime to a blue screen straight away.
still learnt a few things today.
