Is 1.42v vcore under load a little to much.
Just testing this Q9650 have it at 4.2ghz, but needs a lot of volts to get there.
Got it a 1.5v in bios (1.46v idle 1.42v load CPU-Z) 1.4 vtt, should be able to bring that down abit and 1.71v NB, hoping to get that down too.
Its just a question of what do I lower first.
Still cant complain at 4.2ghz out of a CPU with a VID of 1.3v.
Doing some tests now, nearly finished an hour of OCCT, which I know if it pass's that my rig is stable.
Probably wont run at 4.2ghz will back it down to 4ghz with the lowest volts as these Q9650s seem to like high volts at high MHZ.

Getting it down now to more sensible limits.
not much budging on vcore though, 1.41v underload
1.63v NB, 1.34 VTT, 1.54 PLL so slowly working my way down on the other settings.
Yeah I am on decent water, have nothing to check NB temps but should be OK
Max cpu after an hour is 61/58/61/60, but most of the time they are hovering around 55c.
This is at 4.2ghz not 4ghz.
So seem to be doing OK with a very high VID chip.

edit: 1.6 on the northbridge would scare me more, is that underwater at least?[/QUOTE]

Mine is X38 so 90nm where as yours is P45 so lower nm 1.65 would be to much for yours, but not my chipset.
Have used 1.75v before for 480 fsb on my old Q9300.
Got my VTT down to 1.34v now and PLL to 1.54v NB 1.65v wont work any lower just crashs out after awhile.
Thats 4.2ghz out of the way, now to try for 4.3 think I will be lucky though, seem to be on the edge now but you never know.
Then get a nice 4ghz overclock for everyday use.

Yeah its good fun Pauly.
You have a great combo there, no way this P5E will hit 490 fsb.
Quick question testing now at 4ghz, still need quite high vcore 1.34 load 1.32 failed. Have dropped NB to 1.41v, PLL 1.5v stock, VTT 1.26 and pass's OCCT fine.
Now testing with VTT at 1.22v see if it pass's
Does increasing the VTT higher enable you to lower vcore, doesn't seem to, but worth asking.
Temps are great at 4ghz under 50c OCCT load would be more using IBT I expect, still very happy with this CPU considering the 1.3v VID.
Will edit this if I get stable at 1.22 VTT (would be nice to get 1.2v stock). will probably work the NB volts to a little lower if I can aswell.
