i overclocked my 2600k to 4.5 i only changed the multiplier and vcore i left every thing else auto or didnt change it..

when its at idle or nothing much going on it drops to 1600mhz but vcore stays more or less the same.

will this be drawing more power all the time now???

should the vcore drop aswell.

i had a high leccy bill i just want to know if this will have contributed???

If you set the vcore on manual it won't drop.
You'll have to use offset voltage if your board supports it(only MSI don't have this I think)
Or use auto, but then when it's on load the vcore might over compensate and push the vcore higher than you need.

All depends which Motherboard you have, if it's an Asrock I can help you out with settings.

I don't think the guide explains offset, though its easy enough to do start at 0.000 and start rolling back until unstable then raise a notch. 4.5 should settle around 1.28 to 1.31v so you could even try starting from -0.060 and work back, presuming your vid is around 1.38v under load and how good your chip is, all sandy's are different. If it helps ill put up some pics from my BIOS as a guideline

It wont be that substancial. Even a highly clocked 2600k under full load is only going to pull around 130-150w (educated guess, can't remember what mine pulls). GPU's will draw allot more power either way, for example a pair of 6950's will pull around 470w while a pair of power hungry 480's will draw over 800w!

Edit: sorry those figures are for overall system draw, you can probably wipe 150-200w from those figures to give you a better estimate for GPU power draw.

Vcore won't make much difference to the bill but PC's do us a fair amount as they tend to be left on a lot. A mid range gaming pc can cost £0.50 - £1 per day ticking over and £2-£3 per day at full tilt assuming it's active for 24 hours.

Edit with the SLI GTX's you'll be well over a £1 per day at idle!

The load power for a pair of 580's in total system power is rated to 620w, so not all that bad, still as decto says it depends how much you use your system, I didn't notice a big hike in my bills, but I only get on for maybe an hour or two on an evening and around 20 hours total over a weekend, so I have a lower tariff rate for for evenings and weekends :)
