OK people.
I posted something similar to this a couple of months ago.
After making my second dud purchase I'm now hoping for third time is a charm.
Before I go any further - the device I am after has to be correctly supported under VISTA 64bit running with 4GB RAM.

I want to attach an old VHS video player to the PC so that I can transfer some old movies.
I know the results won't be perfect, however it is a quick and dirty way of getting this job done.
I don't care if the device is PCI or USB.
However as said above it must be supported fully and without major issue by Vista 64bit.
The two dud devices I've bought so far:

Hauppauge WinTV 150 - Supported under Vista64 yes, however if you have =>4GB RAM it doesn't work correctly, video capture window just remains pink.

Pinnacle Dazzle Platinum - Loads of logos claiming Vista compatible, speak to them and it's only Vista 32bit.

I've purchased both the above cards, spent weeks and weeks trying to get them running and then made a loss on them because they turn out not to be supported.
Can anyone confirm a device that will do what I want?
If you really don't know if a device will or wont then tell me - I'll contact the manufacturer first.
If however you know for sure of such a device that will work under Vista64 with 4GB of RAM please let me know.

Well the thing is - both the Hauppauge and Pinnacle products claimed to have hardware decoding built in.
I knew that at £50 - £60 I was hardly going to get the very best performance in the world, but I knew I should get a result.

However neither company want to embrace 64bit Windows.
Pinnacle have led me on a wild goose chase since I first e-mailed them and they replied with "Yes, beta drivers are available for Vista64 right now".
Turns out they were lying through their teeth and the impression I get is they simply won't bother.
Hauppauge were a little more helpful, however their answer of "We're not sure, but for now we recommend you run on only 2GB of RAM" was not an acceptable answer with regards their device.

Ideally I'd like to spend somewhere in the region of £50 - £60 on either a PCI or USB device.
It would allow me to connect the VCR - probably via S-Video.
It would then have a pretty basic, but useful hardware encoder.
I could take the VCR tape to the computer - once on the computer I can use any one of the numerous software solutions to edit the file.
It's just the hardware to get it from the VCR to the PC whilst using 4GB of RAM under Vista64 that seems to be the problem...
