vdpau on Ubuntu 10.10 x64 ?

Seems broken to me. I can't get any acceleration no matter what media player i use.

I've installed everything i think i need including vdpau-va-driver.

Anyone got this working ?

what graphics card? got it working on my system, but it's nvidia ION and needs the nvidia drivers.....ATI and never worked properly!

i had poor performance too, i added the x-updates ppa which worked much better.
they have newer drivers.

What player are you using?? I use smplayer and you need to set the video output device to VDPAU.

To make sure its working you can use the VDPAU testing tool.

I get <5% CPU on 1080p h264 and VC1 using a £30 8400gs

Best to disable the composite extension for tear-free playback but you can get it working with this enabled by tweaking the compiz refresh rate settings.

hmmm can't get that testing tool to compile though...you tried it ?

Glad u got it working. You should find Smplayer rock solid with VDPAU. Its handy because it puts in the extra mplayer parameters you need to support VDPAU itself without any fiddling. I also found XBMC makes very good use of VDPAU very easily if you are looking for other software to use. I could never get it to work with VLC for some reason.

Yes I have used that testing tool, but I've reinstalled my system since then so can't be much help. Couldn't have been very complicated if I managed to do it .
