Looking for advice on the modem router to work on BT infinity.

Was looking at TP links VR900 just wondering if anyone has any experiences of this particular product and if there are alternatives out there that are better. And hopefully not massively more expensive.

I'm been using TP Link VR900 for over a month now on my humble Plusnet ADSL, more then happy with it, good wifi range, easy to setup and rock stable.

I did have an Asus DSL-AC68U modem/router before, but had modem disconnect issues so the TP Link replacement has proven more then capable, excellent modem/router that uses Broadcom chipset.

What are you looking for? Do you need any special features or 3rd party firmware support? Very few people seem to have issues with the VR series, however by going that route you don't have 3rd party firmware options.

I am not after 3rd party firmware. nor would i know what that means or offers in terms of performance enhancement.

just need something that gives great wifi coverage and speeds without using up all the power sockets.

I am currently also with plusnet so good to know there are no issues with the ISP using the VR900

what kind of bandwidth and real life data transfer speeds u getting Elevon?

You know ADSL speeds varies from door to door and how far you are from the phone exchange, high speed fibre is not in my area so stuck with normal ADSL speeds, I get about 10Mb( 10ms ping 9.55Mbps acccording to speedtest.net on wifi).

I have had my brother watching films via internet streaming and me gaming live online with no issues via wifi even at that speed and no drop outs.

The wireless coverage is great because I'm two floors up from the TP Link VR900.

I could not be happier with the TP Link VR900, btw you can turn the blue LED lights off on the display, make sure to download latest firmware via their website here if you do decide to buy one http://uk.tp-link.com/download/Archer-VR900.html#Firmware since you have to manually download and upgrade the firmware ( I know some routers tell you if there is a new version out).

I meant the Wifi speeds not the internet speed. I stream from my bric and also usb external HDD as storage solution so need fair decent wifi speeds

Wifi speed two floors up average for me is 216Mbps, I have seen it peak to 515Mbps, again down to your wifi adaptor, signal and distance from the router and obstacles.

That's 6-12Mbit, possibly more depending on the resolution/bitrate/audio, I doubt you'll have issues on anything current coping with that.

I also have a TP-Link VR900 and would recommend it. I don't use the WiFi for anything except mobile devices and most of those don't support 802.11ac so I can't comment on the speed.

Got it for £99 though, I think it's usually £140ish.

Also have a VR900, had it for 5-6 months now.

It's been rock solid, best router I have ever had that 'just works'! :)

Wifi speeds are great, no drop outs, no loss of sync (unless Openreach play at my cabinet)...

£99 bargain that!

Great price, btw I have Android tablet wireless (N speed) on mine and phone(4G), desktop PC wireless(AC speed), wireless printer(N) Linux wireless PC(N wireless),laptop wireless( built-in N wireless and USB AC wireless adaptor) bluray wireless (N wireless).

Combination of mainly wireless N and AC stuff, but have tried G wireless as well with no issues on the VR900.

My brother also hooks his Xbox 360, laptop and Apple phone to it as well when he is here.

No issues with any of the above.

Lastly I've tried wired before the router got moved to the master socket, no issues wired.

Think I've thrown a lot of wifi hardware at it lol.

its more the transferring files to the HDD and backup...

I tend to view wifi as a convenience for portable devices, the kind of scenario you describe is best done via gigabit over a cable. Either way you shouldn't have issues with the VR900, TPLink are surprisingly good when it comes to routers, by no means the best and certainly not perfect, but a lot better than you'd expect.

I think I'm going to go with the VR900 myself. Expensive, but then my old Belkin 54g lasted 8 years and since then I've used the awful ISP routers.
