with recent talks of the goverment suggesting they will invest in the broadband technology . do you think they will use existing infrastructure of copper wire that already exists and introduce VDSL2 and probably use fibre to cabinets. or do you think they will go the full mile and put fibre to door.

they suggest they want mininum 2meg uk coverage. and virgin is already providing 50meg, also bethere are trialing "line bonding" for 24megx2

interesting to see what happens from now to 2012,

Everyone has access to 2Mbps broadband. There is little reason to invest in high speed internet access atm.

FTTC is a bit of a false investment really. If BT can get their hands on the money to deploy FTTC they might as well go the full length with FTTH. Although we are more likely to see FTTH in cities and the curb for rural areas if they do get any investment beyond the minimum required.

FTTC's by far the more cost-effective in terms of £ per customer passed, though it's hard to see anyone wanting to invest in internet access during a recession.

Id put money on it being to the cabinet.

Then, maybe, as the copper pairs start to fail you might get some fibre to the home. But doing FTTH over FTTC will cost a lot more if you look at every house in the country needing it.
