VDub Error....Solution?

Been using Vdub for a few years now without any issue but after a recent Format and starting again from scratch I have come up against a basic error. The only codec I have installed so far is ffdshow where as before I had many.

When I load an AVI into VDub the following error is displayed;

Couldn't locate decompressor for format XVID (unknown)

VirtualDub requires a video for Windows (VFW) compatible codec to decompress video. Direct how codecs, such as those used by Windows Media Player are not suitable.

I assume I need a DIVX codec but which one?

Xvid is an open source wile divX is not, hence its free!
