Running a Asus B450 - Plus Gaming M/B with a Ryzen 5.
HDMI cable is into the Vega 56 card
However it would appear that the graphics are from the built in part of the Ryzen chip.
It has the Vega 56 card in device manager as 'Other Device' So it knows its there just wont recognise it.
Ive uninstalled all previous drivers etc still nothing.
My previous Radeon 7850 worked fine
Help please

what ryzen chip have you got? unless it's a G then the output is 100% coming from the card.

Has it got all of the power cables plugged in etc?

Have you tried a different port?

What happens when you install the drivers? It says no suitable card found?

Where did you get the Vega from, it wasn't a mining one was it?

ddu any amd drivers try reinstall these.

AMD Chipset Driver
Install AMD Chipset Driver.

If you have onboard gfx, disable it in the bios to remove that as a issue/conflict. Im sure you can google or utube ur mb bios on which setting to tweak.

Its a Ryzen 5 3600 which in looking at it doesnt have onboard graphics. All cables plugged in powers on etc.
So that means its not recognising it properly. Under Display Drivers it says Radeon Vega rx
Under Other Devices PCIe Unknown Device.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled the drivers it finds a Radeon RX Vega (No mention of 56)
I got the card from a mate all working fine in his machine.

Yes in device manager mine says rx too.

Use gpu-z tool instead to check ur gfx card, also what does raedeon software say? If you open amd software then click the cog icon top right it should be like mine.

GPU - Z finds it as Name: RX Vega GPU: Vega 10 but if you click on look up it brings up the correct card Sapphire Vega 56
Going to run 3D Mark
Does yours have an unknown device for PCie in device manager?
My whole desktop icons are a bit 'fuzzy' comapared to previous

upload a pic of ur gpu-z window plz. Click the camera icon it screenshots it for you and uploads it to free hostinga and provides a link ro share.

Heres mine.

It does look like this. As a side note I also had to scale the HDMI scaling by 4% to fit my screen.

The unknown pcie thing could be amd hdmi sound driver not installed.

If you uninstalled old drivers the amd way id give ddu tool a go to make sure nothing old is left and restick the latest whql ones on. Upto you. Also not sure why ud need to adjust hdmi scaling unless ur using a tv not a monitor. Even then in amd drivers u can scale it properly id imagine.

I've been trying to help the OP out on this as we know each other and can confirm the following:
  • We are confident that the Vega 56 is working fine - we've run 3D Mark and it came up with a score of around 6700, which is slightly above the score I got with this exact card (as the OP bought it from me!)
  • We ran GPUZ and it identified the GPU as a "Vega 10" but when you click on the "lookup" button it takes you to the correct Sapphire card
  • We also ran HWInfo and within that program it shows as the GPU being the Vega 56
The only annoyance is that in device manager the display adapter is showing as just "Vega" (or similar) as opposed to showing "Vega 56" - I'm sure when I had the card in my machine it showed as a Vega 56 (just as my new 5700XT is showing as just that!?!?)

After all this however there are still a couple of remaining problems as follows:
  • The screen on his Syncmaster P2450 looks sort of "fuzzy" - not sure how to better describe this but the text within Windows is not smooth or "nicely defined" (and we also tried connecting it to an MSI monitor with the same outcome!) - although on his previous GPU it was connected via DVI whereas now he's using a HDMI cable! (no DVI output on the new GPU!)
  • There is also the matter of the 3 "unknown" pcie devices showing up in device manager - no idea what these are or could be???
Thanks for any further assistance!

i still say check windows scaling, refresh rate for the fuzzy issues and try to avoid the hdmi scaling the gpu should do it properly.

The pcie things, maybe do windows update on them it might be the audio driver for the card for one of them.

Is the monitor ok with the version of hdmi that the gpu uses, maybe using a old hdmi cable which is out of spec?

For the unknown devices in device manager I would download the latest chipset drivers from AMD's web site.

Thats normal / non issue, mine is the same (Vega 56 Pulse) and you'll find plenty of examples of the same thing online.

If its just text, then the most likely cause is ClearType is either disabled or is not properly configured.

Right click - Properties - Details tab - Hardware IDs. The VID and PID should point you to what the device is, so you can then find the relevant driver.

as an extra piece of niche information in the past i've had several times where i've had unknown device fixed by a cmos battery removal for 30 seconds and reboot
this is a last resort when you cant figure out a device, it's good practice to clear cmos when changing cards though not required you never know

If it's been modded for mining (you normally see this on polaris) this is exactly the expected behaviour. If it is a reference board flip the bios switch on the card and give it another go. It could just be that it's running a modded bios on the performance side if so you can flash it back but to confirm this could be the case flip that switch and try again.

Should have read the thread properly before posting :) Nice one on the after sales support!

My vega64 which was bought as an AIO version, never changed the BIOS, just flags up as being a "Radeon RX Vega" in the radeon software, followed by having a red cross on most of my games on the gaming tab because it apparently doesn't meet minimum requirements.

Yeah, mine is the same. I think its something that changed with the drivers as it never used to do this. Still, makes no difference to performance otherwise so I'm not bothered by it. I'm not using the V64 BIOS in my signature at the moment either as it wasn't long term stable, may revisit that though.
