Vega 64 Overclocking & Undervolting information & guide

Do you have any idea why the first row achieves higher GPU clocks than Stock+50% power limit?
The only difference seems to be that memory is clocked higher on former.

Stock clock settings on P7 is 1632, while the manual settings I used were 1682. So a slight overclock on core clocks was used in row 1. Hence the slightly higher total wattage used.

Check GPU-Z to see what GPU only power reports? At 1000mV it should be around 205W. Is this using ROTTR, because less taxing games or benchmarks will possibly boost higher.

This was in killingfloor 2 with around 90% utilisation and 223w gpu only draw

Mine seems to be holding higher clocks with the most recent drivers. My normal setting of 975mv gives clocks not below 1580MHz and my noisy setting of 1075mv gives not below 1640MHz, anyone else seeing similar?

What is astonishing is the difference in power usage from lowest stable voltage to max allowed voltage. 153 W to 325 W, over twice the power used for 11% extra performance..
That's because power consuption rises to square of voltage rise.
So consumption rises 78% per clock.

P=UI
I=U/R
Hence becoming P=UU/R

So when caring about energy efficiency minimizing voltage is important.

I hope this guide is helpful to any Vega 64 owners out there.

Thanks ICDP, great guide!! Really helped me today when I was trying to modify my wattman settings.

It surprised me how much difference a few small changes can make. My Vega 64 is a much better card now and I haven't even tried very hard to get the best settings. Better performance, quieter and using a lot less power than stock settings.

Im pretty new owner of a Vega card, and i like to undervolt mine to if it would help performance and power usage. I see you used a air cooled card, i have the Liquid cooled version wich is running on a higher freq. any guide on how i would go about doing this card?

Created an account here just to thank you OP. I was pulling my hair out, everything I previously tried had little or the opposite desired effect and the "voltage floor" HBM value was the key, Ive got a Sapphire Nitro Vega 64 (11275-03-40G) and thanks to your guide Im getting stable 1632/1000 at 1200mv and only just cracking 60 degrees C while under heavy load. Anyway thanks again.

Make that 1742 core and 1095 hbm and have a newfound appreciation for this card now.

First OP, thanks for sharing this detail. Some good info in here.

I tried to redo my undervolt so I thought I would reset my settings in wattman and do a 50% powerlimit and go downwards from there.. Except from the fact that my card now pulls roughly 600+ watts from the ffing wall!, total system consumption is 960watts on a 860watt platinum PSU.. No I am not going to use that as a starting point :P. Jeezes the nitro+ is a hungry monster if you don't tame it. Still love the card though.

I'm going to rethink my approach to this :P.. I don't want another fried pcie power plug heh.

Can someone share the settings how to get the same power consume as RX580 has?

I had bought AMD RX580, but it was not good enough (to get 70 fps) for IL2 BoX Series (2550x1440) ... I installed AMD Vega 56 yesterday and it is really hot... I have tried some settings but it still hot.

So my question is, how to configure it that it is about +20% faster as the RX580 and consumes about 150--160 W?

Look through this: https://www.overclockersclub.com/reviews/vega_efficiency/

What V56 do you have? What's your case/fan situation? How hot does it get exactly? Where is the PC located, etc. We need more info.
