Vega next step up from a 1060?

What's your budget?

I don’t have one and likely go 2nd hand if I bother as well, for example I saw a vega 64 for under £230 on FB the other day, seemed a good price I guess?

But I’m just wondering where the upgrade path starts right now

1060 is approx equal to the rx580
vega56 is approx 1.5x the 1060/580, so would be a decent upgrade

vega 56 < 5700=vega64 < 5700xt

tl;dr anything vega56 and above

My wife went from a 1060 6GB to a Vega 56 (Sapphire Pulse) and for her it was a noticeable upgrade.

Would still have it if I hadn't snagged a good deal on a RTX2080 for her - thanks Boom :) (which was a comparable uplift again in performance).

I know someone who made that upgrade. He said it was good you can basically move up from 1080p to 1440p and still get a bit more fps.

Depends. £250 you get V56 new, but also you might get a V64 used (Red Devil, Nitro keep away from Strix)

Think about the fact that your sig says you only have a 450w PSU as well.

AMD make some good cards and are well priced, but they do use more power than the NVidia counterparts, so be wary of that.

You'd need to upgrade your 2200g aswell.
Apologies 1200, i got you mixed up.

I wouldn't want to risk a Vega with a 450watt PSU. Therefore you'd want to look at a 5700 which consumes less power unless you're also upgrading the PSU.

Thanks for replies, but ignore the sig for a moment and to not confuse matters I am running a 2600, the talks about 1200/2200g are for another system I’m building that isn’t for anything specific, so this topic is for upgrading my main computer.

Yeah I know my 450w psu wouldn’t cut it for anything over a 1060 pretty much, if I was to upgrade even to a 1070 I would change the power supply.

I’m starting a game development course next week, it will likely be basic to start with despite being a level 3 and so I was thinking If I would over time gain anything from upgrading, I know the software they be using, but I won’t know how advanced things are going to be, but I will be putting my computer more to use to continue learning at home, so want to make sure it be plenty capable and not have me consider upgrading again.
