Vega64

This is my first venture into the higher powered GPUs for mining. Because this is not a reference GPU I have had a hard time finding good info/mods. At present, I am only overclocking and would like to know what else I could do. I would like to know those things that would void the warranty as well as those things that won't. Here is my current status. It is a Gigabyte VEGA 56

Also note, unlike the previous reference, these have Samsung.

None, it’s your money your free to do as you wish. But if it was me (and I too really would like a better GPU, my 290 has served me well but I fancy more grunt) I would keep hold of my money, this gen of GPU’s have been out a very long time. I don’t usualy go with the ‘wait’ crowd when it comes to a GPU or CPU upgrade, but given just how long these cards have been out for, I just can’t get my head around anyone buying near two year old tech for LAUNCH prices, unless of course your exsisting GPU dies

if you wait you could be waiting for a year or so. not many people expect nvidia to release anything new anytime soon and AMD might just release the v56 and v64 refreshes.

i would go for the v56 and the freezync monitor though. the v64 doesnt seem to have a great reputation.

I really don't see where the drama is, just settle for this:

My basket at Overclockers UK:
Total: £459.89 (includes shipping: £9.90)

Flash with a Vega 64 BIOS, thus unlocking the shaders and you will be fine.

The cheapest GTX 1080 Ti is 210 pounds (50% ! ) more expensive. For this amount of money, you can buy a new extremely fast CPU or loads of fast M.2 PCI-E SSD capacity.

V56 with v64 bios won't unlock to 4096 shaders, and the hbm2 doesn't always like running at v64 speeds.
At least it is worth it to try.
Nope not worth a try I say again v56 will not unlock to v64 4096 shaders. Yes performance increases with a v64 bios, who'd a known ?

A reference card in the video with a dual bios, and only flashed with a v64 bios, it has not unlocked the shaders.

again one last time right here ..

The advantage to a v64 bios on a v56, is the hbm2 overvolt from 1.25v to 1.35v, though the hbm may be a low clocker, the powertables are more refined and spread a wider clock advantage, but on the gigabyte cooler it's a waste of time as you will be thermal limited before you are current limited. So unless you plan on undervolting and tweaking then the v64 bios advantages will be wasted if you just run it out the box.and risking a bad flash on a single bios gpu, then go ahead. I've flashed single bios gpu's and have recovered bad flashes but not everyone is capable or lucky enough.

I take it you are mining a monero based coin?
The hashrate looks good, but the power usage is not good at 270w, Gpu-z will read about 40 watts less than the real power usage for Vega.
If it was me i'd reduce the p6 state to 1450 0.950v p7 state to 1500 and try 0.950. Power target 50% and see if you can get stability with reduced power usage,.
What drivers are you using ?

Mining ETN (Monero)Wow, doing those 3 things took my hashrate down to 1570

I know why it's not working out, the hbm on mine is clocked at 1100, when the hbm is clocked it alters the power distribution.
And yours is at 930, but with the v56 bios you'll only have 1.25v to play with the hbm. what can it push on the hbm frequency? have you tried to use 2 threads at 1792?

Here's at 1100 notice the power is only 125w (165 real)

Well I keep changing my mind :-(
Whilst in Turkey laid on a sun lounger sipping cold ale, I decided to bite the bullet and go for a 1080Ti
Then I get back and hear all this talk of the next gen cards getting released 'soon' (but nobody seems know show far away 'soon' is)
Not sure which way to go (do it now or wait a short period) - v64 & freesync monitor (21:9) or 1080Ti & which 21:9 screen (a lot pricier)??
Not sure I can wait until next year, I tend to game in the winter months on the cold evenings....the suspense is killing me ha ha
