Couldn't see a dedicated one so may as well start one...

Got around to buying Your Face today. IMO It's a return to form after the slightly painful My Love is a Bulldozer of last year (the only release of his I don't have). Just had a listen through so might as well share some thoughts.

Standout track for me so far is Red Orange 2, with lovely deepening bass lines, reminds me of the highlights of Detrimentalist.

Become Magic Dolphins also worth a mention for illustrating his cheeky sense of humour with the dolphin chattering noises sprinkled throughout. :D

Ah, we happy few :D

Just listening to Your Face now for the first time, so will reserve judgment until I've given it a few more "spins".

I quite liked My Love Is A Bulldozer in parts, though I suspect I'm in a tiny minority who thought the best tracks were the ones with Aaron's vocals on.

His vocals were also one of the reasons I rated Poemss' album as one of my favourites of last year. I think it's artistically commendable that he's pushing and adding new things even if some of them fail, rather than safely resting on laurels *cough*Reznor*ahem*Aphex*harrumph*Squarepusher*cough*

Having said that, I doubt he'll ever top Doll Doll Doll. That was a masterpiece, a bona fide [and downright creepy] work of art.

EDIT: Ooh, Your Face gets better as it goes along :) I was initially worried it was going to be a cold bleepfest, a la Huge Chrome Cylinder... but nope, he's mixing it up nicely. No singing yet, though :(

Not sure how you can accuse Reznor of resting on his laurels, otherwise he'd still be making The Downward Spiral every album.

I like Venetian Snares, need to check out some more I think.

Funny you should mention Twin and Pusher as the opening track of Your Face reminds me of both. Much more than any of his other records. Seems to be much more acid involved in this album than just straight breakcore.

After a few listens, I'm going to put this in the "point release" pile, along with Filth, Hospitality, Meathole etc. It's just a bit... bland [well, by Snares standards!].

On the other hand, I've revised my opinion of ...Bulldozer upwards after a revisit. It's more adventurous and cohesive than Your Face by some distance.

Totally agree with the first part. Interesting you've enjoyed Bulldozer more lately. I should probably give it more of a go.

Thank You For Your Consideration

Just discovered this interesting release from last month. Apparently released after a successful plea for help with financial problems (see his Facebook page).

A seriously strong release IMO from a first listen through. Opening track Smersonality is especially moreish, combining the loose drums of This Bitter Earth with the sweeping strings of My Downfall. Lovely, especially with the subwoofer (loads going on in the 40-50 Hz range) :o
