Anyone else listen to the Snares?

IMHO i think the guy is a genius! A mate said he sounded like a 5 year old playing on fruity loops, but he stuff is just amazing!

Im currently hooked on the album, Rossz Csillag Alatt Született. Mellow tunes that suddenly kick in and go mental!

his older work is pretty insane, but like i mentioned, the newer albums go for a more mellow come insane approach!

if your into stuff like Aphex Twin and Squarepusher, Venetian Snares is easily on par with them, if not above them.

which Winnipeg song? theres a whole ablum about Winnipeg lol!

some interesting trivia for you, on his album Songs For My Cats, near the end of one track, there is an imbedded image you can view with a spectroscope and it happens to be a picture of his cat! Also, on the Aphex Twin tune, Come to Daddy, there is a picture of Richard D James at the end of the track, also viewable with a spectrascope.

hmm well i dont think it was the one on that myspace page "winnipeg is ******* frozen" but i think i heard that as well, i remember it talking about Winnipeg, describing it. Il have a listen to the album and see if i can remember it!

Scroll down to see one of the Snares' cats. Looks a lot cuter than it sounds [no pun intended!] ;)

Personally, I love Aaron Funk's work - his 'punk' attitude, his sense of humour and his programming skills which all combine to raise his music above the banal masses.

VS can be a bit intense at times, though, but in various ways; be it the shock-horror uneasy brilliance of 'Doll Doll Doll' or the digital crystalline ear-flossing of 'Huge Chrome Cylinder Box Unfolding'.

For those new to 'the Snares', I recommend the aforementioned 'Rossz Csillag Alatt Született' [yes, I copy-pasted :D] as it's his most accessible. Then follow it up with The [Stupid] Chocolate Wheelchair Album', 'Winter In The Belly Of A Snake' and [my favourite] 'Doll Doll Doll'. And if you're still in there after all that, you'll appreciate the rest of his vast discography!

And I gather he's originally from Winnipeg, hence his love for the place :D

sounds uncannily like ubik, a dodgy act put together by a couple of producers circa 1991 (fancy that, producers putting an act together in the 90s) similar loopy, 'still finding his way' sort of feel. Not a bad thing though (although, admittedly the Ubik album was complete cack)
