this suddenly happened when I booted my computer today

I turn it on, it goes past standard bios screen then it's stuck saying "verifying DMI Pool Data"

I've tried:

1. checked all cables and made sure harddrive is connected properly, which it is - it can be detected in the bios settings
2. reset all cmos settings to default
3. removed the cmos battery for an hour to completely clear the cmos
4. went into PNP/PCI configuration and enabled reset configuration data
5. removed cd-drive and everything else but the harddrive
6. tried a new harddrive - nothing

I thought I would try reformating the harddrive, so I plugged in the cddrive again to try and format it using windows 7 - however if I tried to boot with cd-rom I get the verifying dmi pool data.. again

I tried to update the bios but when I try to boot from the usb drive I get the verifying dmi pool data again

any ideas?

Re: Verifying DMI Pool Data BIOS
After a few hours, I successfully fixed the problem. I believe my bios was messed up a little bit, so i updated the bios version which seemed to fix the problem.

Thanks for the help,

Found this, you need to update the BIOS within the BIOS itself and then perform the flash. Have you got your manual for the motherboard?

I do not - no. The only advice given on my manufacturer website is to update bios from windows - which I cannot do. I have a USB with the updates version, and that's ready to flash to bios but it gets to "verifying dmi data" before being able to access it.

edit: http://www.manualowl.com/m/Acer Computers/Aspire-T180/Manual/114609

page 28 is the start of my bios screen - it goes through every menu so you can see what im looking at.

small update: if I disable the "Quick Boot on Self Test" the PC will get stuck at the part where you press del/f12 and not move for around 10 minutes. It will then pass that stage and go onto the "Verifying DMI Pool Data.." again. :\

I had this recently with my ex58-ud5, I found it was a 3TB drive having more than 2.2TB on it which stopped it getting beyond this point, it works fine if i plug it in once in windows :(

Does your computer go beyond this point with no drives connected? ie does it go as far as saying there is no boot disk.
