I bought a used laptop.
The windows key is faded but i can make it out. unfortunately the version of windows is too faded out to tell which version its supposed to have..

The windows installed has a totally different key to the one on the base so i want to wipe it out?

Anywhere i can write in the key and it will tell me what version of windows i should be installing?

i need to write in the key somewhere so it can tell me which license it is. so i can nstall that version to the PC.

The current windows installed is a pirate and i would like to remove it. jelly bean would just give me the key to that version installed right?

Correct.

Sorry, I don't think you'll find what you're after. You'll have to install it and find out.

It unfortunately looks that way.

usually what we do at work in those instances is firstly check for a 'made for' sticker on the front. If it says made for xp then put pro in because if you only have a home key it will still install (only home features etc) , if its pro then cool beans!. Next thing you could have done is search the serial on the back of the laptop or looked for the model and see what it ships with :D
