Vertex 3 -v- Vertex 4

Hey all.
I got my Vertex 4 today, but it is the 128GB version, which is slower than the larger capacities. It is a formatted 120GB just like all the older OCZ drives so they are just being cheeky calling it 128GB.
My order got lost by DPD and took 5 days (3 working days) to get here so OCUK have given me £10 back on the order. I paid £127.99 on TWO, plus the discount bringing it to £117.99.

Please note that I am using Sata 2. I do have Sata 3 but it is a **** Marvell controller that would be without trim. Plus, the SSD speeds marketed are what they reach for a split second now and again, so I thought I would get a lot of the speed even though I am using Sata 2, plus I may upgrade in 6-12 months. I realise I could have got an Agility 3 or an M4 of the same capacity for under £100 but I am a geek for the new tech, even though I can't use the full speed.

No it doesn't, it uses the Indilinx Everest 2 controller.

I came here to mention this. The Indilinx Everest 2 is Marvell hardware with custom Indilinx Firmware, and fiddled with clockspeeds.

Proof http://www.anandtech.com/show/5741/ocz-confirms-octane-and-vertex-4-use-marvell-based-silicon

This may mean the vertex 4 will be more reliable also, due to the Marvell controller. Although that could be more to do with the firmware so can't say for sure...

Also it says in that article that the Everest 2 might be based on the new Marvell controller. Now IMO I think not due to it's performance in benches comes into line with an improved Crucial m4 rather than a 'new generation' of performance. Just saying in case people think to jump on it if it had a proper next gen controller in it.
