They Recommend the samsung 830 over this drive in the review i read.

Many sites did due to it being much cheaper although it offered lesser performance.

Now the price is in line this is the better purchase.

A review always considers the price in a rating, when the price is not factored in (ie they are the same) then performance on tap is what brings in the win. The V4 is quicker... not by miles but certainly by enough to matter :)

I have both a 256GB Samsung 830 and a pair of 128GB V4's.

The Samsung is a great looking drive (physically) but the V4 is faster. Remember in the early days the V4 had lower write until new firmware

It was to do with power usage in laptops as the vertex 4 users 1watt of power so would run laptop battery out quicker than what the samsung 830 would. plus a few more points what ever it was price maybe.

But these new SSD, at what price will they be sold at. If I had the cash I would be buying one of these.

A small fortune!

If its the fastest SSD since sliced bread and they have no competitor, they will charge a nice premium for it, just like the Vertex 4 upon first release as they fly out.

The lower priced Agility and lesser models don't get effected in price by new top-end models. A drive like Vertex 4 will only be effected if they choose to replace the Vertex 4 with a new model. If however they position the new model above the Vertex 4 it shall just command a very big premium. Think GTX 680 for example, the GTX 580 remained at its price and the 680 had and still has a much higher price!

Lower price models are effected by general NAND pricing movements. Reports from China are indicating that for now NAND seems to be bottoming and Toshiba are cutting production to make chips less available. Basically something memory/flash/nand manufacturers do to stabilise pricing or get it moving back up.

Wrong Gibbo sorry

Reports are that as the whole drive is engineered in house, all they are needing to purchase from a third party is NAND, and although NAND pricing is volatile it is very much on a downward trajectory, therefore expect a very competitive price. This drive will have a very low BOM in relative terms for OCZ and is the fruits of their strategy coming together.

Think how much cost is taken out by making and producing your own controller - 0 licence fees.

They may try and charge a small premium to make additional profit but I fully expect this drive to be realistically priced as this is the moment OCZ has been waiting some time for.
