Vertical marks/lines on windscreen - how to get rid of them?

My M340i has these weird vertical 'lines' on the windscreen. It's only just developed these after a few weeks. You can't really see them when its dry but if it rains or you use the washers, they become apparent after the wipers have swept over them.

Now, the only thing I can think of is about a month ago I started using the Autoglym Polar range. So Polar Blast then Polar Wash then finally Polar Seal (not at every wash I hasten to add). I've followed the method of application and always dry the car off after I've finished, with a couple of soft drying towels. The first time I used Polar Seal though, I did unfortunately get some on the windscreen. Subsequent washes I have tried to avoid that as much as possible but invariably it will run down off the roof onto the windscreen anyway. The lines to me at least, would be consistent with individual runs of Polar Seal (or indeed Wash or Blast) running down the screen during the washing process.

Has anyone else had this with Autoglym Polar stuff or even other manufacturers cleaning solutions? How do I get rid of it? I've tried household glass cleaner like Mr Muscle - didn't look at it at all. Then I tried Autoglym Glass Polish, it didn't shift it either. Finally after browsing some detailing forums there were a few folk advocating using Tar & Grease remover. Tried that and again, didn't really help. If you use a microfibre cloth to buff up the windscreen after application of any of those products, you can almost slightly feel the individual lines 'sticking' to the cloth as you wipe over them.

It's very annoying, I'm not sure how to sort this out. Can anyone recommend a way to fix it? It gets very distracting using the wipers in the rain with every pass showing up loads of lines all down the windscreen and at night, its even worse!!

Couple of photos below, the first two images you can clearly see them - this was first thing this morning with morning due/overnight rain on the car. The one where I'm on the road (got my partner to lean over and take these before anyone asks ;)) is slightly harder to see, but if you look closely you can see them.

Any advice appreciated.

currently using autobrite clear view, but autoglym car polish had been equally effective,
do have to put in a lot of elbow grease, with a robust cotton cloth, micro-fibre for application just skates over the surface and absorbs the polish, if cloth is white you easily see residue it picks up too.

Had no issues with Autobrite Clear View either...

I would suggest trying to degrade the coating as much as possible, have you tried multiple sprays left to soak and agitation of neat Citrus Pre Wash? I once left neat Citrus wash on my paintwork with kitchen paper on bird poop, 0 beading left behind on that one spot.

Try doing the same with the wiper blades too, I have found my blades have caused stubborn marks before when not kept clean.

Not sure how helpful the suggestion is, since if a glass polish hasn't touched it... But thought worth mentioning!

I use the AutoGlym Polar Blast foam and then their other products on my M140i (shampoo, wheel cleaner, tyre dressing) and have never had the issue you gave shown… must be something else mentioned.

Thanks guys, I have picked up an Autobrite Clay Kit and a bottle of Autoglym Fast Glass, so will wash the car tomorrow (looks dry from the forecast, but its been heavy showers here on and off today so haven't been able to) and try the Fast Glass with some decent cotton cloths and then try a clay bar on it, see how I get on.

Any sort of polish will do this quite quickly. Think it's just staining from water on the glass.

I've found the best way to stop it is to make sure the windscreen is properly dried after washing it and to put zero products on the windscreen

That should work but this stuff is the nuts for regular de-contamination of the windscreen:

**UPDATE**

So judicious use of Autoglym Fast Glass with lots of elbow grease seems to have helped shift it. But I'm going to claybar it this afternoon too. Still no idea what caused it, washed this morning, noticed the side windows are doing it too for some reason. Dried it all off with towels then sprayed the side window with water again, still showing up on them yet. Guess I'll go around the entire car and Fast Glass/claybar all the windows then.

Condensation? You got a leak anywhere?

It's on the outside, rather than the inside

I'm wondering if the external glass has been treated with some sort of coating (RainX type perhaps?) at some point. I've never had good experiences with those sorts of glass coatings so if it has been the case, I'd rather it was removed. Should get it all done this afternoon as the weather is sunny and bright for a change.

Looks like traffic film to me.

Start mild, use stronger cleaners until you get rid of it

Try using a bathroom cleaner being VERY careful not to get on paint/rubber. Spray on a cloth first.

Try isopropyl alcohol too - saturate the glass with it.

Then try clay.

Then try a cerium oxide based cleaner with rayon pads, or the glaco linked above.

Clay bar and another dose of Fast Glass worked a treat. First time ever using clay, brilliant stuff! Thanks to those folk who suggested it, I had no idea you could use it on glass!
