Very choppy playback on 4od

BBC iplayer, itv player, 5od, youtube, vimeo etc all work fine, but 4od is unwatchable on both firefox and a fresh install of chrome. When the video is playing, i'm getting like 0.0001 fps, and the mouse becomes unusable and very jerky/slow until i pause the video again.

Flash player fully updated, Win8 64bit. i5 3570k, 7970 graphics card, 4gig of ram

Anybody have any idea what the problem is?

Have you tried disabling Flash hardware acceleration?

Yes. No difference. I'm really stumped. It would be understandable if it happened on more than one website, but it's just 4od that causes problems which is unfortunate because they have some of the best TV content.
