Very Concerned With My 8800 GTS Benchmarks

Hi All.

Further to my thread earlier regarding my new BFG 8800GTS OC 640mb.

I've just run 3dMarks05 with the below settings:
1280 x 1024
2 x AA
Texture Filtering - Optimal
Max Anisotropy - 4

I got a score of 9719 3dmarks

However, when I ran this with my old XFX 7800GTX 256mb, and with 1 gig of ram, rather than 2 gig, I got a score of 8021.

NOw, is it me, or is that not a very big jump, considering the upgrade from 1 gig of ram to 2, and going from 7800GTX to a 8800GTS?

Could someone with a little more understanding of these benchmarks things shine some light on these scores?

Many thanks, as always.

Your going be very cpu limited with only a amd 4000 cpu at stock speeds and at a very low res of 1280x1024....

You sure you could get 8021 3dmarks points with your 7800gtx with 2xAA and at 1280x1024res,,,,As i myself use to have a overclocked 7800gtx and it would only do around that score with no AA and at 1024x768res

THIS CONCERNS ME THE MOST...

Hmm...my scores / spec in sig... those scores look low, as said above though, your cpu will be limiting... at stock cpu clocks i got about 11k.. now at 3.01 i get 16k..faster cpu helps a lot

Have you tryed running at 3dmark05 default settings of 1024x768 with no AA and NVidia drivers set to there performance settings ???

That score will be about right as you have AA etc... on, when you bench you dont have any AA/AF etc... on, and you set everything to performance in the nvidia Control Panel.

I take it your running Vista if your getting this :-

Display Device
Description NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GTS
Manufacturer NVIDIA
Total Local Video Memory 1024 MB
Total Local Texture Memory 1024 MB
Total AGP Memory 256 MB

Which is a Vista bug so don't worry about it. :)

I will try this, however, based on my info above, I can't help but feel that the card is not installed correctly? I'm a little concerned by this...

Total Local Video Memory 1024 MB
Total Local Texture Memory 1024 MB
Total AGP Memory 256 MB

And the info regarding the slots currently in use on my mobo...

Hi Loads,

No I'm running Windows XP Service Pack 2... that's whats worrying me... Help!

Ahh well theres me wrong again :D , i know Vista says that though, strange for XP to be doing it though, id set everything to performance with no AA/AF and run it again, see what the score is then, as the knowledegable ppl will have a better idea then, and can tell wether its about right or not, as no one benches with AA/AF etc on as said. :)

Use these settings in the Nvidia Control panel when you bench :-

In the Adjust Image Settings With Preview i select Use My preferance and slide the sldier all the way to the left for Performance then Apply it, then i go into Manage 3D Settings and set these :-

AA/AF = Application Controlled.

Antialiasing Transparency = Off.

Force mipMaps = None.

Multi Display/Mixed-GPU Acceleration = Single Display Performance mode.

Texture Filtering Negative LOD Bias = Allow.

Texture Filtering = High Performance.

Triple Buffering = On.

V-Sync = Forced Off.

Took these from another thread i posted them in, i use these settings to bench, and will be best using 3D Marks 06 instead of 05. :)

Cheers Loads.

I will download 3d Mark 06 and give those settings a try. I'll try and catch you over the weekend with them, so you can hopefully cast your eye over them.

In the meantime, I just ran 3d Mark 05 again, with the 'normal' settings i.e. no AA, and got a new score of 10389.

I'm still a little worried that my mobo is only picking up 256mb of onboard ram rather than the full 640mb... what are your thoughts?

Likewise i dont think my systems scores are up to par, everything is at stock had the system over 2 weeks now.

9714 - 3DMark06

4600 - SM2.0
4743 - HDR/SM3.0
1989 - CPU

Mobo:Asus STRIKER EXTREME 680i
CPU:Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 (2.4ghz)
RAM:OCZ 2GB DDR2 800MHz/PC2-6400 PLATINUM XTC
GPU:BFG GeForce 8800 GTX OC 768MB
OS:Microsoft OEM Windows Vista Ultimate x32Bit

I'am pretty sure i should be getting higher than that? using all the lastest drivers and BIOS.

If the mobo reports it wrong this shouldn't be a problem as the graphics memory is used by the GPU not the mobo.

Your score is almost exactly the same as mine, And I have practically the same system, except asus commando motherboard and an Extra 2 gig of ram more than you :)

The 8800GTS would suffer less when using higher AA/AF levels, 3DMark'05 is very CPU limited as a benchmark and as such not ideal to compare videocards.

Morning all.

The saga continues...

I was fed up with it all last night, so before storming off to bed, I ran a quick 3dMark 06 test, I allowed 3d mark to scan my system, and then I ran the test. All told, I got a score of around 5500.

I feel this is very low compaired to the 10000+ I was getting with 3dMark 05.

Not sure how this is possible... and I'm still unsure if my 8800GTS is working correctly, if I installed it correctly, or if the PCI-E 16x lane on my A8n SLI Deluxe is working right.

Ohhh... the joys of PC! Thank christ for xbox 360's!!!!!!!!!

Your settings are wrong then, disable all AA/AF etc.
