For a while now my PC seems to go slow when I have a few tabs open. I currently have 6 tabs open & nothing else running in the background yet my memory usage looks like this:

WTM.png

I am using Corsair 4GB DDR2 XMS2 PC2-6400C5 TwinX 2x2GB at stock speeds on Win7 64bit. Even when closing Firefox, usage still stays pretty high at around 54%

I did a memtest overnight a few nights ago with no faults so I have no idea what it is. Everything else runs fine.

Thanks,

Flare

you have 64 processes on, there has got to be at least 10 different background programs going on.
You can also tell this by the cpu usage is only 3%, background programs are hogging the memory.

thats nothing, i dont use firefox i use chrome, but i have 3 accounts, though the one im on now is my main and will continue to be, it was originally one i setup for the missus and i have 88-92 processes going oopsie  and going through the list i dont know what will and wont fcuk up my computer if i delete..

everything was pre-installed, so i have no discs and havent backed anything up yet.

You sir are a legend, ever thought about writing a book?

What GPU do you have? I noticed a massive memory leak with Firefox on my Llano laptop with AMD 12.8 drivers (used up all the memory, to the point it lagged the entire system). Rolled back to 12.3 and it solved it. 12.8 is fine on my desktop though.

So I would suggest turning off hardware acceleration and see if that stops it. If it does, then you have a GPU driver problem.

EDIT: Actually, if the usage stays high even after you close Firefox, something else seems wrong...

usually I install CCleaner and disable the startup programs that aren't needed, like update checkers, itunes helpers. Ram could also be hogged by antivirus. Also I disable the service for windows defender, but each to their own.

Download sysinternals: Process Explorer. it will show you memory usage for each process and gives more information than task manager.

does everyone who uses chrome have like several process 2 at least well over 100,000kb?

i got myself from about 92 to about 86 with that process explorer, but i have no clue if theres any others i can kill as it all looks like important stuff and i wouldnt want to **** things up lol
