Very high pings

hey all,
i recently started a game of BF2 and was repeatedly kicked from various servers for having a very very high ping of around 355 is there anything that can be done to change this or am i just going to have to live with it
 
Its usually to do with load on the ISP network. I sugest you have a look on your ISP status page (if they have one). Where are you trying to play too ? any information about ISP / trace logs e.t.c would be a great help just as OllyM said.

Nah, i'd firstly check to make sure you have nothing whoring the bandwidth you have mate.

Does it do it during the night too... or off-peak times?

and yeah as said above do a tracert and post the results back. You might have a lot of packet loss somewhere down the line.

Also, maybe check that the server you are connecting to isnt in China or somewhere, maybe try a UK hosted server.

What are you talking about?!

ADSL is a type of DSL, and of course AOL use it - they use standard BT Wholesale services, the same as most other ISP's.
 
I was under the impression that AOL used cable like NTL do, not through the BT phone system.

I specifically remember reading on an AOL advert that you could only receive AOL broadband if you had a cabled area... maybe this has changed in past months.
 
Yeah ideally that needs to be with no downloads or any other internet activity running at all mate. Especially upstream!!

Everything past the first hop is your ISP's troubles.

Im guessing its just a dodgy server you are connecting to which is half way around the other side of the world.
 
Well, it's not perfectly fine, it's AOL routing BBC traffic across to America for some reason. Should look more like this:
