Was just playing GTA V in 4K and noticed my temps on CPU was 79-83c. I just reapplied thermal paste (its a stock cooler) and its still showing high as seen above when doing a CPU stress test. My CPU is an i7 3770 (non k).

It sits idle at 43c.

How can i get these temps down on stock cooler?

EDIT: Now i've hit 87c and stopped the test.

lacking in case cooling?
stock cooling is rubbish
and you still over 20 C away from Tj max

so I think it sounds about right.

you hit a higher temp cos I guess you have a build up of heat inside the case

has it always been this temp or it gone up recently or something?

gta v is quite cpu intense

Hi, thanks for replying.

Its only just started doing this to my knowledge, I cleaned the whole system out before reapplying heatsink, and to be honest it wasn't that dusty.

I have 4 120x120 fans, one located on the back sucking pushing air to the graphics card, two bringing air in from the front to the CPU, and then one on the roof of the case pushing all the warm air out (also tried using that as cool air coming in, which made it slightly worse)

Then obviously there is the CPU fan. Ventilation hasn't been a problem in the past and i haven't altered the computer in anyway.

Never really paid much attention to CPU in the past until today, when i set overlay on in RivaTuner, it kinda got me a bit worried.

Whats the max temp the i7 3770 can handle does anyone know? Google has quite a few numbers so not sure which is correct.

Just re-applied more thermal paste and managed to get the Idle down to around 39-40c and the 100 load to around 79-81c

May invest in a third party cooler after Christmas.

Can anyone recommend a good after market cooler for my CPU? Thanks

Yeah, gonna switch out the back fans and make them pull air out, and the front already bring air in. The cooler is like new, not much dust there at all, any that were just wiped away. Also checked the thermal paste and it looks ok to me, only put a tiny drop on, previously it was patchy.

That gained 4-5c less heat on idle and load. Thanks Harry, will check if thats compatible. :D
