very interesting about w7 ultimate

i have been having issues with my download speeds for about a year now, this morning it was running at pretty much 0kb/s so i called the manager from virgin.i have his number because hes been out so many times anyway long story short i was running w7 ultimate and this morning have changed to home premium and all my problems have disappeared....the machine is now running at over 10000 kb/s on downloads i can get a gb in a minute :eek:

So I'm guessing it would have been the reformat that fixed the issue, not changing the OS version.

no mate i have reinstalled the ultimate version many times and have had this issue for a year now....turns out it was the ultimate version that was causing this :eek:

home premium runs my network fine

This makes no sense at all.

If there was a networking problem with Ultimate it would be common knowledge by now.

there are loads of folk saying the same thing and i bet there running ultimate/pro

Seeing as the network stack is identical both versions, this makes no sense.
A slightly corrupted install media perhaps?

That's a load of rubbish. The networking stack is the same on both versions and the installation media is identical for both versions.

Literally the only difference networking wise would be that ultimate allows you to join a domain whereas home does not. Although this should not make a difference connecting to a router.

Sounds more PICNIC to me

Several machines here and at home running a mix of Ultimate, Pro and Home Premium and I can confirm they perform identically on identical hardware network wise

Nah, a PEBKAC error sounds much more likely.

It could be something as simple as the wrong driver being installed.

Its a common error with Win7 Ultimate Edition only. Something in the Ultimate config causes this to happen. Dont ask why or how, dont question the fact that everything is identical. We know.
It just...happens.
