very low 3dmark score :( help please

For a decent score in 3DMark 06 you really need a highly clocked quad. With a Q6600 @ 3.5ghz you'd be looking at about 15 or 16k.

3dMark runs multicore? When nothing else does? I think not.

Probably IS your CPU though, as I was getting 11500ish with a 5600+ and an 8800GTS (or maybe the GTX, can't remember). But it's it's clock speed not that fact that you only have one useless core, as opposed to me and the rest of them with three useless cores.

Erm, yeah. And most of the recent game releases on the PC use more than two cores, so it's not really surprising :)

Q F T.

Your CPU is bottlenecking your score. Run 3d05 and you will see that your score is more inline. It will still perhaps be lower but 3d05 dosn't take the cpu into account as much as 06 does.

that is such an unbalanced spec

drop in a pII 940 & watch your score rise :P

Or a least a 7750

or even get a better overclock I hit 2.7 with ease

Im planning upgrading my cpu soon, It will be am2 since thats what my mb is. Probably a phenom.

At present im getting 2.4 ghz on water and my cpu temp is about 42c and mb around 44. not really wanted to go any higher incase i damage the mb. The processor burning out would not bother me but dont want to wreck the mb as its only got the stock cooling on it.

Don't need a quad, a wolfdale does just fine. I can beat many Q6600 3dmark scores, I get lower CPU scores obviously but the high clock of a wolfy makes the sm2/sm3 scores shoot up.

For example I can pull nearly 23K with CF 4870s running 8x/8x and got 18,757 with a single 4870 and my dual core.

However, to the original OP, yes you need a new CPU. Easiest upgrade is Phenom 2, but a better one would be yorkfield IMO. I seem to be one of the few people not very enthused about the Phenom 2......especially regarding benchmarking.

I'm having similar problems to the OP. I know 3dm06 is getting a little old and it's a synthetic benchmark but I haven't been getting the performance I expected in games so thought I'd run a benchmark.

System as detailed in sig

Total Score is 12193
SM2 5283
HDR/SM3 6696

From other benchmarks I have looked at seems I should be getting in the 14k range?

Nope that sounds about right, 3dmark06 is heavily CPU reliant and in that test your e4300 is heavily bottlenecking the card
