Since changing BACK to vista (Was on before and worked flawlessly) ive got nothing but a max of maybe 20 fps in CSS + BF2.

Specs are:
AMD San Diego 3700+
7800gt
2gb OCZ Platinum
DFI Lan party Ultra-D

Any ideas?

Ive upgraded video drivers to Nvdias latest, did nothing, so put omega drivers on and it still isnt any better.

REALLY annoying seeming as im meant to be hosting a LAN party tomoz

with that rig i would run xp less problems less background processes better performance in games. reformat to xp ?

Yep, worked fine, around 30 fps which im happy with, and thats with things on medium due to my card only being 256mb version, and im running a 22" screen.

I actually feel like punching through my monitor right now:mad:

Hmm well it's only a 10fps drop... Any of your hardware changed since you last used vista?

I would try various things:

check control panel> systems> hardware> device manager to see if everything is in order
run GPU-Z and CPUZ to see if everything is as it should be
run speedfan to check temperatures
defrag
check hard disk with hdtune
etc

You may have tried the above but I would be looking at everything I thought relevant

Thats a point, i swapped my old IDE HDD for a new SATA Samsung 160gig.

Ive updated all sata drivers ect so could it be related to that?

EDIT: Done alll of the above except defrag, which im doing now, and everything seems to be in order.

The new HD shouldn't cause a problem, if anything it should increase loading times in games. Defrag can make quite a big difference, hopefully it works for you. If not how about reseating your components? Especially gfx card, and cleaning out any dust.

Had a good dust clean out when i put the new HDD in, but ill reseat everything after ive defragged and tested.

Cheers for help so far :D

That sort of spec should be gaining you a nice little fps, how can you be happy with 30? :o!

Are you sure there isn't an in-game setting that you havn't changed since re-format? Are you using same config?

Again check temps while under load.

I doubt defragging is going to make that much difference, unless its totally creamed, still fingers crossed.

When your playing is your hard drive churning away like mad? Are you using the same MB when you switched from ide to sata? Is there any setting you need to make in the bios? In all honesty it could be many thinkgs, is it was me, id go through the tweakguide.

Vista's Disk cleanup tool is quite useful i removed over 10gb of useless Program Temporary files as well as removing Hibernation as thats nearly 4gb.

Found the problem.

I took out my GFX to put a new HDD when i installed Vista, and forgot to plug the power back into the card :o

Delete this thread to save me looking a fool please mods :p
