Right.... Something that i've asked several members which i know personally on here and some from Uni and no one has a "absolute" answer...so i came to the pr0's here :)

Right.... I'm looking at CPU and Motherboards in general.

Right, i seem to know about overclocking a bit on procedures as i have taken my E6600 to 3Ghz at the moment, but the problem im getting a headache with is..

Lets say you have a CPU E8500 C2D 1333FSB. If you put that in a Mobo that only 1066 FSB Support. What would happen? Would the processor run at a lower speed as the Mobo would only support up to 1066?

And vice versa, if you have a 1066 CPU E6600 and put it in a 1333fsb mobo, the mobo should backtrack itself to work at that speed right? And also in overclocking...i know you raise the Bus speed and it reflects on the FSB. But what is it actually overclocking.. the MOBO fsb or the CPU's?

Im a bit nooby when it comes to overclocking and bus speeds:(

Not sure about the defaults when you stick the CPU in, but I know that when you OC you are overclocking the FSB as a whole. the 1066/1333 figure is the speed put through something called Quad Pumping, or someting, and then your CPU and RAM have there own multipliers.

As for FBS support for the mobo, they may not be official, but they will go higher. EG:

I have a DS3 with a 1066 FSB (although support may be to 1333 duue to latest bios, but I havent checked)

My FSB has been manually set to 400, this means

My mobo is running at 1600 through Quad Pumping
My CPU is running at 3200 through a 8x multiplier
My RAM is running at 800 through a 2x multiplier

The FSB is a single figure for the whole system, the different figures are because each component uses its own multipliers.
