Havign recently rebuilt my PC, I realized that one of the main things I had forgoten to install was Steam. Annoying as I have a rather large catalogue of Steam games. So off I went, grabbed the web installer, and installed over the top of my old Steam directory that was still sitting on my seperate games partition (that wasn't formatted when the machine was rebuilt).
Steam launched fine, my games list fully intact, and apart from a few updates there was no major re-download to do.
The first thing I wanted to try was Episode 1, as not only was I now running all the latest drivers for my hardware, but I was also hoping a fresh build would help give a few more frames a second.
Instantly I noticed a problem. All of the computer controlled characters "jerk". The game runs as smooth as silk on full settings, but the animations (on Dog and Alex for example) are not right at all. The models do what they need to do, and get where they need to go, but move in a way almost like they were dropping frames.
I have since loaded up Half-Life 2 and The Lost Coast, both of which are running great. CS Source, DoD and all the others are fine as well.
The problem is only with HL2: Episode 1.
Anyone had anything similar? Or better yet, can offer a solution?
