My laptop barely gets used and it normally sits in a protective case out of the way. If it's not been used then I will turn it on every month or so for it to download updates. I did this yesterday as I will need it next week in work and the connection speed there is very slow compared to home.
So it boots up and I'm presented with the list of users. I am unable to type in my password because the keyboard isn't working. So I tried plugging in a USB keyboard and I got the same. I can log onto the guest account at which point the keyboard(s) start to function. I can then log off and back into my account but then the touchpad doesn't work.
I did a virus scan and nothing showed up and since the laptop is only used for browsing I decided to rebuild it. Now it's been rebuilt it does exactly the same thing. I've managed to get all updates on it, and most oddly, after it's been on for a short while the keyboard starts to function.
I can only assume that it's some form of hardware problem however it's around 25 days out of warranty.
I called up the support line for the retailer where I got it and they are looking into authorising and out of warranty claim however if it isn't authorised I'm a bit stuck unless anyone has heard of a similar problem or could offer a solution?
The laptop is a HP DV6-1210SA and the OS is Windows 7 Pro 64 bit. If I can find my Ubuntu disk I might try that but I think it won't help at all.
