Since building my C2D rig I have always suspected something was amiss. It didn't seem that much quicker than my 146 @ 3ghz.

I only recently started benchmarking and have come accross a few odd issues. I would be very gratefull if some of the wise heads on here could shed some light on the problem.

1. When I extract files using winrar, the extraction occurs in bursts. With my 146 it was continous. It's kinda like 5% then a seconds wait then 12% etc etc.

2.I ran the nero dvd burner test and kept on getting awfull results. Its a samsung SH-183L and is rated at 18X. I average 6X when i burn dvds?!

I'm not sure if it's the mobo or cpu. can anyone help?

Got to the bottom of it! it all had to do with the stupid AHCL intel thing. You don't need to reinstall windows to activate it.

Its worth checking out if you've got a 975X and didn't install em with windows as NCQ will be disabled and you burning speed will be stunted.

Do you mean AHCI? (the NCQ thing). I've been using that for a few months, thought you had to set it up before windows installation?

Oops, yeah meant AHCI. You don't have to set it up before windows installation. The problem is it's a chicken and egg scenario. Windows won't boot if AHCI is set in the bios but the drivers arn't installed, the drivers won't install unless AHCI is set in the bios!

You need two HDD's, one with windows on it and the other just a data drive. You also need a mobo with two sata chipsets.

What you do is put your bood hdd on the other chipset and set that as ide. Change your primary chipset, with the data hdd on it, to AHCI.

Change the boot priority in the bios so windows still boots from your primary hdd. Once in windows your data hdd will have dissapeared. Install the Intel driver software and reboot.

Go back into the bios and put your primary hdd back on the mobo's primary chipset sata port (in my case the ICH7R instead of the Silicone controller) Which was already on AHCI and Voila!

NCQ doesn't make much of a difference so I doubt that was the problem - more likely that you simply didn't have the Intel chipset drivers installed ;)
