Long story but i have a laptop. 50/50 it works or its broke but i dont have a charger.

I tried a universal that was right volts but lacking an amp or two. When i plugged it in the little light went from constantly on to flashing rapidly.

Long shot but what do people rekon? good or bad sign? i dont want to buy an adaptor to find the laptop is bust if you get me drift :(

What laptop is it?

The fact that the charger is lacking an amp or two isn't good.

Which green light flashes? Is it the battery light? This could mean that the battery is dead (I think the battery light flashed on an old IBM thinkpad I had when i plugged the charger in). Id take a guess and say that the lack of amps means the charger can't provide enough current to power on the laptop but is possibly trying to charge it but the battery is toast.

If the light is just flashing rapidly, that will usually signify that it's charging the battery. Less ampage than the recommended amount will only affect the charging speed and pose a mild risk of it running out of power (or maybe overheating the psu?) when it's at full load.
Although you haven't said much about it, it sounds like at least the battery is working. (or maybe flashing signifies that the battery is dead? I've not seen one that does that)

Thats filled me with, atleast a wee bit, of hope in the laptop yet!

In that case when funds are a bit less Red i shall buy myself a charger :) hay if it works its a free £200 laptop!
