very odd win 7 64bit problem

if i enable the second hand on the "gadget clock "my cpu useage jumps to 50% and the gadget slows down to almost freezeing
although every thing else responds fine
its definatly useing 50%+ as my cpu temp gos up as well
any ideas?
ive tred uninstailing all resent software but no luck
im guessing a driver related problem but theres no new drivers on since this started happening

it seems to be any of the animated ones, clock with 2nd hand , cpu meter etc
by the way this is on a duel core@ 4 gig

What Anti-virus product are you using? From what little I have found on Google some people's problem went away after removing AVG. Another possibility is UAC being turned off can cause high CPU usage.

i found the same with google
its not the problems mentioned as it was fine up untill yesterday im a bit stumped at the moment
